TENNIS

Whether you enjoy competitive tennis, social doubles, or are simply looking to get back on court, the SPARTA Tennis Section offers opportunities for players of all ages and abilities to get involved.

Throughout the year, SPARTA enters a variety of tournaments and competitions, providing members with the chance to represent the organisation, meet fellow tennis enthusiasts from across the Civil Service, and enjoy the sport in a friendly and welcoming environment.

SPARTA Sports Day Tennis Tournament

One of the highlights of the SPARTA sporting calendar is the annual SPARTA Sports Day Tennis Tournament.

The competition is run based on the amount of entries either as a singles tournament doubles round-robin tournament, with entries welcomed in Men's, Ladies', and Mixed Doubles categories. All formats ensure that participants enjoy plenty of tennis throughout the day while competing against a variety of opponents.

While the tournament is competitive, the emphasis is very much on enjoyment, sportsmanship, and social interaction. It is a fantastic opportunity for players of all standards to get involved, represent their department, and enjoy a great day of sport.

Civil Service Lawn Tennis Club Interdepartmental Championships

SPARTA also enters teams in the prestigious Civil Service Lawn Tennis Club (CSLTC) Interdepartmental Doubles Championships, traditionally held in Nottingham each autumn.

Teams compete in Men's, Ladies', and Mixed Doubles events over three days, facing opponents from Government Departments and other Civil Service organisations from across the country.

Each team consists of two doubles pairings, competing in a round-robin format against teams from other departments. The standard of play is typically strong club level through to county standard, making this an excellent opportunity for more experienced players looking for high-quality competitive tennis.

Over-50s Team Tennis

SPARTA also participates in the CSLTC Over-50s Doubles Team Tournament, which features Men's and Ladies' teams competing in a unique handicapped format designed to create closely contested matches regardless of playing strength.

Following the success of previous events, SPARTA aims to continue supporting entries into this competition and encourage experienced players to represent the organisation. The event has proven to be both highly competitive and an excellent social occasion, bringing together players from across the Civil Service tennis community.

Social Tennis and Taster Sessions

Alongside competitive tennis, SPARTA is keen to encourage more members to pick up a racket and enjoy the game.

The Tennis Section is looking to organise social tennis and coaching sessions for both existing and prospective players. These sessions are intended to provide opportunities for beginners, returning players, and experienced competitors to play in a relaxed environment, improve their skills, and meet fellow tennis enthusiasts from across Government.

SPARTA is also exploring opportunities to include Padel Tennis, one of the fastest-growing racket sports in the UK, as part of future activities.
